The Allahabad High Court has announced 83 vacancies for the Uttar Pradesh Higher Judicial Service (UPHJS) 2023. These positions are allocated in accordance with the reservation guidelines set by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
Eligibility Criteria
🔹 1. Educational Qualification
The applicant must be a law graduate from a recognized university (LL.B. or equivalent degree).
Must be enrolled as an Advocate under the Advocates Act, 1961.
🔹 2. Professional Experience
The candidate must have at least 7 years of continuous practice as an Advocate on the date of advertisement.
Experience must be in either Civil or Criminal Courts (or both) recognized by the High Court.
🔹 3. Age Limit (As on 01 January 2023)
Minimum Age: 35 years
Maximum Age: 45 years
Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC of UP) get age relaxation as per UP Government rules.
🔹 4. Nationality
The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
Candidates from other states can apply under General (UR) category only.
🔹 5. Language Proficiency
Must have proficient knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script.
Should be comfortable in drafting legal matters in English as well.

Selection Process
🟢 Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Screening Test)
Type: Objective-type (Multiple Choice Questions)
Purpose: Acts as a screening test to shortlist candidates for the Mains exam.

Current Affairs
Indian Penal Code, CPC, CrPC, Evidence Act, Constitution
Legal Aptitude
Marking: Typically 100 questions for 100 marks
Negative Marking: As per official rules (if applicable)
Qualifying Nature: Only shortlisted candidates move to Mains.
🟢 Stage 2: Main Written Examination
Type: Descriptive (Essay-type answers)
Papers Included:
Law Paper I
Law Paper II
Language (English & Hindi)
Judgment Writing
Total Marks: Around 1000 marks (as per official pattern)
Objective: To assess in-depth knowledge of law, drafting, interpretation, and articulation skills.

Marks: 100 marks approx.

The final merit list is prepared based on the aggregate score of Mains and Interview.
Only those who qualify in the Mains are called for Interview.
